Off the Loop: Time for Grand Baby!

Tuesday, June 10- Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Off the Loop...It is important for us to take time for important events and people in our lives.  We have discovered that we are not ready to "sell the farm/house/everything" and move onto a boat full- time like many loopers have done.
"Being a grandparent is an amazing experience."  This is what we had been told, but never really "got it" until we became grandparents and held the little one.  Yes, we are in love with the little Logan.  We admit it.

We landed in Mpls about midnight on Wednesday morning and Logan was born at 2:42 pm that afternoon.

While we were waiting for the
announcement of his arrival, we
had lunch with Mary's Aunt Glenis,
strolled through the Como Park
Conservatory, and took a ride on
the Cafesjian's Carousel.  The
carousel was built in 1914 and was
located at the MN State Fair grounds
for 75 years. Great Fun!

After a few visits with the the proud parents, Sydney and Ryan, and lots of baby time at the hospital, we hopped a plane to Palm Springs for a quick visit with Steve's mom and our daughter, Ariana.  Always good to spend time with family, and we also experienced some new restaurants. It's summer in the desert, need I say more?  If you enjoy triple digit temps, you will feel right at home, here!   We arrived on Thursday and flew out on Saturday, so it was a quick visit.  We did manage to reconnected with old friends, Rev. Dave and Arlene Hotelling, who pastor a church in Palm Springs.
After returning home to MN, we enjoyed dinner at Marty and Cindy Siegel's and reviewed our loop schedule.  Marty will be joining us for a few days on the Erie Canal.
Sunday was Father's Day, and we had a gathering of the family to celebrate dads.

Monday morning, brought a quick baby session with Logan followed by a plane ride to International Falls and a drive into Canada to the Chase Cabin.  It's awfully nice up here and VERY VERY WET! A section of Hwy 11 had been washed out after the heavy rains and a connector road to the cabin was covered by water in four places.
About 5 pm, we arrived at our (mainland) boat house.  In order to get to the cabin, there are two miles of lake to cross.  Mary was relieved that it would be a daylight crossing rather than through the black of night.  Other than high water, all looked great.  Until...Steve paddled up to the loading dock in a canoe!  We usually keep a fishing boat in the boat house to commute to the remote cabin, but today we have a CANOE!  Long story short...all went well and we arrived, just a lot slower than normal, to the  cabin.

Our view from the porch of the cabin.

When 7 pm arrived, the fish were calling, so off we went to the fishing spots.  Steve had a big smile as our 18' Crestliner zoomed to our favorite fishing spots going 27 mph!  Dream Chaser runs at 8 mph when the currents and winds aren't against us.  Steve was thrilled to go FAST for a change!

There is nothing like cabin time in early summer.  The loons were keeping track of the location of this eagle.  This loon was enjoying his lunch.

Two snappers and four painted turtles made their way from the lake up the hill to lay eggs.  The fishing is great, and the views are calming.  Mary set the record for "minnow usage" when she used one minnow repeatedly to catch four walleyes!

This large snapper wasn't very happy with our presence!
It has been a great time at the cabin.  There was fun evening lake gathering at Pat and Jean Fiedler's, and we enjoyed reconnecting with many lake friends.

As we watch the sun go down, the fish begin to bite!

It was a quick flight home and a wonderful gathering of the family, except Nick who had to work.

It's hard to leave with Logan changing and growing bigger each day, but Dream Chaser is waiting in New York.  The Erie Canal is our next destination.
